श्लोकः - 3.293.8

मूलम्-
अपत्योत्पादनार्थं स तीव्रं नियममास्थितः ।
काले परिमिताहारो ब्रह्मचारी जितेन्द्रियः ॥8॥

पदविभागः-
अपत्य-उत्पादनार्थं सः तीव्रं नियमम् आस्थितः । काले परिमित-आहारः ब्रह्मचारी जितेन्द्रियः ॥

अन्वयः-
सः अपत्य-उत्पादनार्थं तीव्रं नियमम् आस्थितः । काले परिमित-आहारः ब्रह्मचारी जितेन्द्रियः (चासीत्)॥8॥

प्रतिपदार्थः-
सः = he
अपत्य-उत्पादनार्थं = for begetting child
तीव्रं = severe
नियमम् = rule, any voluntary or self-imposed religious observance (dependent on external conditions)
आस्थितः = practiced, followed, rosorted to
काले = in (proper) time
परिमित-आहारः = taking in very less food
ब्रह्मचारी = practising continence of chastity
जितेन्द्रियः = one whose senses are restrained

तात्पर्यम्-

अतः उन्होंने संतान की उत्पत्ति के लिये बड़े कठोर नियमों का आश्रय लिया । वे निश्चितसमयपर थोड़ासा भोजन करते और ब्रह्मचर्यका पालन करते हुए इन्द्रियोंको संयममें रखते थे॥

He practiced severe religious observances for begetting child. He took less food and remained chaste and subdued his senses.

[ब्रह्मचारी should not be thought of a person just keeping away from sexual union. ब्रह्मचर्य involves much more things related to body and mind. Dress, life-style, food, place of stay, sleep, surroundings - everything is counting. It involves subduing of senses, controlling of mind, words, acts, and following austerities, concentrating on spiritual activities etc. A ब्रह्मचारी does all activities that will help him attain a particular objective. That might be a temporary or permanent vow.
